The circle of life

Got home today and rode the bike up to the shed in the backyard, passing a dead red-headed woodpecker at the base of the tree.

Scooped it up and disposed of it in the tall grass just off the common area. No big circle of life speech in me today. Just glad the kids weren't outside to see it.

Wow! You passed so close to a poem that didn't get written. Maybe it was the red wheelbarrow that distracted you.

False. Look in wonder as some creative formatting reveals the poem inside:

Got home today and
rode the bike up to the shed in the backyard, passing a
dead
red-headed woodpecker
at the base of the tree

Scooped it up and disposed of it

in the tall grass

just off the common area
No big circle of life speech in me
today
Just glad the kids weren't outside
to see it

Point well taken; yet, it is only the first draft and needs editing.

Well, I didn't say it was a good poem. Just poetic. Take two:

Got home today
Rode the bike up to the shed in the backyard, passed a
dead woodpecker
at the base of the tree

Scooped it up and disposed of it

in the tall grass

No big circle of life speech today
Just glad the kids weren't outside
to see

Or:

Passed dead woodpecker
Disposed of in the tall grass
Glad kids not outside

Or:

I once found an old dead woodpecker
I wish something rhymed with woodpecker
Placed it in the tall grass
That each evening I pass
Seriously, nothing rhymes with woodpecker?

I may have doomed myself with that first line.

In sooth, I care not why the bird is dead
It draws the flies, and thus it needs must go
I scoop it up and drop in yon tall grass
The yard which our damn neighbors never mow

Twas fortunate the kids were all inside
For great words spoken I had all but naught
I'd never heard the bird peck in our wood
If so I would have been indeed distraught

Whose bird this, I do not know
It's rotting in my backyard though
I think I'll stick it over here
In the grass they never mow
